During a safety inspection, a trained inspector will thoroughly check your vehicle for any defects or issues that could compromise the safety of the vehicle or its passengers.
In Ontario, the safety of buses, trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles is regulated by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO).
One of the ways that the MTO ensures the safety of these vehicles is through regular safety inspections. These inspections are conducted at designated MTO inspection stations, like Mississauga Bus, Coach and Truck Repairs Inc., where vehicles are thoroughly checked for any problems or issues that could compromise the safety of the vehicle or its passengers.
The vehicle is mounted on a hoist, where the inspector has access to the underside of the vehicle for a thorough examination.
The inspector will check the brakes, steering, tires, lights, and other systems to ensure they are in good working condition.
The inspector will also check for any rust or damage that could affect the safety of the vehicle.
If the inspector finds any defects or issues that need to be addressed, they will provide the vehicle owner with a list of repairs that must be made before the vehicle can pass inspection.
The frequency of safety inspections varies depending on the type of vehicle and its intended use. For example, buses and trucks used for commercial purposes are typically inspected more frequently than personal vehicles.
It's also important to note that MTO inspections are mandatory for all commercial vehicles, if a vehicle fails an inspection, the owner must make any necessary repairs and have the vehicle re-inspected before it can be used on the road again.
Repeat offenders may face fines or penalties, and in extreme cases, the MTO may revoke the vehicle's operating permit.
